Garden Party - Rick Nelson

Garden Party
Words and Music by Rick Nelson

I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again

Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came
No one heard the music, we didn't look the same
I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave

Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should

If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck

'n' it's all right now, learned my lesson well
You see, ya can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself

  1. Oh I LOVE THIS!!! We are planning a Disney World trip for June 2012, so the first picture really caught my eye. And Tootsie's is just an hours drive from here. I had heard of it all my life, growing up with Country music playing all the time, but my first visit there I was shocked at how small it is. But, they sure pack the people in!! Rockin' Roller Coaster again it's DISNEY - never ridden the ride, high blood pressure and all can't do coasters, but the kids love it! Your musician group reminds me of my wedding reception, we had an outside wedding and musicians playing. The truck is really cool. Is it yours, and do you drive it?
Great Post and the song goes with it perfectly!

  2. Smiling and crying here, Doug. The video was made in 1985, the year Rick Nelson died. He was only 45. I was born a few years after Ricky, but not a lot, so I remember his early TV days and his early singing-song-writing career...and his face. Anyone who was a teenage girl, when I was, would have that face etched into her mind.
I like the pictures you chose to go along with this song, Doug. Now excuse me while I go and cry some more.
